Other Information: Kentucky Pets Alive is a volunteer based 501c(3) organization that was originally formed in August 2008 as Shelby County No Kill Mission of Kentucky, Inc. with the mission to save all adoptable animals at The Shelby County Animal Shelter, which was an open admission municipal shelter until July 2014. We assisted the shelter in becoming the first no kill community shelter in Kentucky and helped maintain the no kill status for 6 years by providing the following programs: foster care, microchips for every animal adopted, collars and leashes for transported animals, medical care/supplies to sick and injured, the operation and funding of an inhouse spay/neuter clinic, offsite adoption sites/events and volunteers to assist with the physical/emotional care of the animals. During these six years, over 10,000 animals left the shelter alive. In August 2014, Shelby County No Kill Mission and the Shelby County Animal Shelter went separate ways. The mission of saving some but not all was not our mission. We changed our name but not our mission. Our new name, Kentucky Pets Alive, continues to reflect our mission: Every Life Matters. We continue to assist the animals in Shelby County, but we are also assisting other counties who are actively striving to save lives. We are now assisting Jefferson, Anderson and Daviess counties.

Non-profit animal welfare organization with one primary purpose - to reduce the number of homeless, unwanted and uncared for animals in Bell County. Three main objectives: Promote Responsible Pet Ownership; Encourage Spaying and Neutering; and Support the Bell County animal shelter.
Spay/Neuter:
Spay/Neuter Programs: SNAP program is for individual pet owners who need assistance in getting their pets spayed or neutered.  The client pays as much as they can afford of the cost of the spay/neuter surgery. Friends of the Shelter will pay any remaining expense for the operation, keeping in mind that the more each client pays, the more people we can help. Free Spay/Neuter Clinics: At least once each year the FOS hosts a free clinic for for pet owners who need financial assistance in getting their pet spayed or neutered. Each clinic will spay or neuter as many as 80 animals, providing basic health checkups on each along with some vaccinations. Working to prevent homeless animals from occurring in the first place!

Shelter
/Animal Control
Mission Statement:
Murray-Calloway Animal Shelter has a very high “turnover rate” due to the ever-rising number of homeless pets, both stray and owner turn in. Their time at the shelter is limited and the pet you are viewing may no longer be available. (This could be remedied with responsible pet ownership and always spaying or neutering all pets!) The shelter volunteers may not have the opportunity to list all available pets, and there are so many wonderful animals needing homes.
Adoption:
Our adoption fee is $20.00 (cash only). You must sign a contract agreeing to get all vet care needed for the animal, including spaying or neutering. We offer a discount voucher for spay/neuter assistance based on income. You must be 18 years or older to adopt a pet. We will be happy to give you additional information on any animal in our shelter, just give us a call.
Rescue:
Rescue Friendly.

Contact:
  Ph: 270-759-4141   Email: [email protected]
Spay/Neuter:
The Humane Society of Calloway County offers assistance for spays and neuters (must apply and meet requirements). Applications are available at the shelter or humane society.
Transport
: Can usually help with transport
Sponsoring: We are seeking businesses or private individuals to sponsor the Spay or Neuter of a shelter cat or kitten older than 5 months. The cost is $45.00 to sponsor a spay and $35.00 to sponsor a neuter, which is tax-deductable. This donation also covers a rabies vaccination.
Donating:
The shelter relies heavily on donations, either monetary or the necessary supplies to better the care and treatment of all animals within our shelter. If you are interested in helping us to achieve these goals, please consider a cash donation. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY80.html#info
Fostering:
We are always in need of responsible folks who are willing to offer good temporary homes for our orphaned animals. Some foster candidates are shelter animals who are on their way to rescue groups in other areas, but are required to be housed outside of the shelter population for a short time. If you are in a position to open your home to one of our animals in need, please contact us at (270) 759-1884. You can also download a foster care application at www.forthepets.org

Other Information:
Website has Lost/Found page. Groups who assist the Murray-Calloway County Animal Shelter:  Humane Society of Calloway County and LBL Rescue; Humane Society's "One at a Time" Cat & Dog Adoption Programs which rescues cats and dogs from the shelter into foster care after visiting the vet for updated or necessary vet care.   Dogs and puppies are also assisted by "Puppy and Small Dog Rescue" through the North Shore Animal League, breed rescues, and our Petfinder  website. Friends of the Shelter is a program that is through the Humane Society of Calloway County.  This program accepts donations which goes towards helping to provide vet care to shelter pets, such as spay and neutering, antibiotics or needed grooming. These services often help to improve the adoptability of the pet and spay/neuter assist in combating pet overpopulation by adopting out already fixed cats. Volunteers also post the shelter animals on the Petfinder.com website to increase awareness and visibility. Murray State University  AHT (Animal Health Technology) Program has classes which occasionally will rescue cats and dogs from the shelter to provide vet care, including testing for disease, spay/neuter, and deworming

Shelter Support/Rescue   For animals from Fleming and Mason counties
Mission Statement: We have decided to begin our own rescue here for Fleming and Mason County dogs/cats. We do not have a shelter here in Fleming Co. so all of our animals are transported to Mason County. There are more homeless and unwanted pets than there are people who want them in this area. Therefore many are being put to sleep several times a week to have room for others coming into the shelter. We have started pulling as many as we can to try and find homes farther North of Ky as most Northern areas do not have the over population problems we do.
Adoption:  We first ask you to visit the Mason County Shelter to see who is available there. The hours are Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Closed Sunday. Adoption fee from the shelter is $25. If you do not find the pet you are looking for, then please visit us by appointment during the week by calling us @ (606) 876-2697  Saturday  we are open for adoptions 10a.m. til 6p.m.
Fee: $75 for dogs and includes the spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, flea preventative, and grooming.
Heartworm test is available at a $15 additional fee which is highly recommended.
Donate:
We are asking for donations in the form of dry food and money donations to help cover hospitalizations. Money can be donated to Dr. Ben Wilson at Bath Veterinarian clinic @ (606)674-6692 either in person or by phone.  You may also donate on our website at www.flemingrescue.org

Volunteer: We need a secretary and individuals to take a dog out for our weekend adoption days
Foster:  Foster homes are needed. Please contact us.

Animal Advocacy/Rescue
Serving the needs of animals in Fulton County KY, Obion and Weakley Counties in TN.
Mission Statement: The Ken-Tenn Humane Society is committed to making a positive difference in the welfare and quality of life for the animals in our area.  We do this by maintaining programs to educate and encourage the public to have their pets spayed or neutered to avoid over-population and unwanted animals.  We make every effort to place abandoned, mistreated, and homeless animals to avoid death by starvation or euthanasia. A staff of committed, confident, and caring volunteers  assure that our mission continues to meet our expectations and standards of excellence. We do not have a shelter to house abandoned or unwanted pets so we rely upon the generosity of members and community citizens to provide foster homes for dogs and cats until we can help locate a safe and new home for these pets.
Adoption: We assist people with pet adoption.  Our members are aware of pets in the area that are available for adoption and we attempt to find homes for them through an organized “Pet-Adoption-Day” or by on-going communication with people wanting to adopt and those that have pets available.
Ken-Tenn personnel make every effort to assure that the pets are only adopted to caring, loving homes.  We conduct interviews at the time of adoption and do follow-up checks to assure that the new pet and owner are compatible. Anyone interested in adopting  should call Glenn or Pat at 1-731-235-9603 or Lois at 731-479-2079.
Spay/Neuter:  Ken-Tenn personnel negotiate fees with vets to  provide pet owners with reasonable spay/neutering costs in an effort to decrease the unwanted animal population in our area.  Sometimes grants are available to assist the pet owners with this procedure and these funds are used strictly for this purpose. For residents of northwest Tennessee and southwest Kentucky (Obion and Weakley Counties in Tennessee and Fulton County in Kentucky), low cost spay/neuter for pet cats and feral cats. Also, they offer advice on how to maintain feral cat colonies.   Email: [email protected]
Foster: Foster homes are scarce.  Perhaps you have a fenced yard or acceptable place to keep an unwanted pet temporarily until we could find a home for it. Through generous donations by our local businesses, we are able to provide food for all our foster animals.
Donate:
Any amount you can contribute will be deeply appreciated and 100% of your contribution will be used to improve the quality of life for the many, many animals in our area requiring attention.   http://www.kentennhumanesociety.com/
Volunteer: We need dedicated volunteers who wish to become members and who have the time and desire to help us in this worth-while endeavor.
Other Information:

Shelter
Mission Statement: The Grayson County Humane Society is a small group of volunteers who are working to change our local animal shelter from a high-kill, low adoption facility to a Low- or no-kill facility with a high rescue/adoption/reclamation rate. We're comprised COMPLETELY of volunteers who donate our time, money, and resources. Because of such conditions, we're constantly faced with an urgent need to move these wonderful pets to safety, in order to avoid the need for euthanasia simply due to lack of space.
Adoption: Out-of-state adoptions are allowed, but a home visit and references are required. Adoption fees: Cats and Kittens $55; Adult Dogs $85; Puppies $100. All animals adopted from us will be altered before placement and will receive their vaccinations and worming. The adoption fees only serve to cover such expenses. While the adoption fee for cats includes testing for FeLV/FIV, heartworm testing for dogs can be done for an additional expense.  You can apply online or you can email the shelter volunteers at [email protected] or call 270-230-8839 to request that an adoption application be emailed or sent via regular mail to you.
Rescue:
We welcome rescues to look at our residents and will convey to no-kill organizations.  Sponsored dogs are free to approved rescue groups. Contact us ASAP either via email at [email protected] or via telephone at 270-230-8839. Rescues that are new to working with us would need to submit a list of their vet references, rescue references, an outline of their adoption policies, and reason(s) why they would ever euthanize a pet. Low cost vetting is available.
Contact:
Donna White--Phone: 270-230-8839   Email: [email protected] or [email protected] com
Transport: USUALLY AVAILABLE (often to Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and sometimes even Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont) PLEASE JUST ASK!!!
Sponsoring:
Involves making a donation in any amount to help cover the vetting needs of the shelter pet of your choice. If you would like to pay the full sponsorship fee for a cat or kitten, it costs $55, while adult dogs are $85, and puppies are $100. Sponsorships can also be in the form of little "care packages" that are sent to the pet(s) of your choice.
Fostering:
We're always in need of additional foster homes to take these deserving animals into their care while they wait to be adopted or rescued. Please contact us either via email at [email protected] or via telephone at 270-230-8839 if you'd like to open your heart and home to a foster pet. You can also fill out a volunteer foster application online and one of our other volunteers will get back to you as soon as possible.
Volunteering:
As the Grayson County Humane Society/SPCA is comprised of only four main volunteers and two occasional volunteers, we're always in need of extra hands to work on a wide variety of tasks. Please feel free to contact us if you'd like to help

Shelter/Animal Control
Mission Statement:
The Harlan County Animal Shelter was established by Harlan County Fiscal Court.  Its mission is to provide services which safeguard the public health and safety and to humanely house and care for the animals in its charge. Many of our animals are not lucky enough to get rescued or adopted. Too often, pets are thrown away when they are simply no longer wanted or are too difficult to maintain. These are the animals we strive to find "forever homes" for. We attempt to save as many orphaned and neglected animals as we possibly can. Please see if any of our animals are what you have been looking for.
Adoption:  Fees: Cats/kittens:  $7.00 each; Dogs/puppies: $15.00 each.  Animal Adoption Contract must be signed and abided by.  Pet(s) must be spayed or neutered within one (1) month of adoption from the Harlan County Animal Shelter.  We are happy to adopt animals out to loving homes from out of state, however you need to have a plan to get your new pet. Please do not contact us and ask us to ship or drive your puppy to you. If you would like to adopt or foster a Harlan county dog, please email [email protected]
Rescue:
If you are interested in rescuing, please contact us as soon as possible and we will work with you to help the animals.
Contact:
Email [email protected]    Ph: 630-640-6556  or  Hannah  [email protected]
Transport:  Available! We have regular transports in several directions. Ask about them, if you are an approved rescue group and want to help a dog, but have no way to get it to you.
Sponsoring/Donating: We really need donations of Revolution to treat mange. Dr. Fosters & Smith Site and1800PetMeds Site. Following donations are always needed and greatly appreciated: towels, blankets, kitty litter, puppy food, cleaning supplies, Old crates, with or without doors (we're making warm and snugly "indoor dog houses" for the kennels!)
Fostering:  If you would like to foster a Harlan county dog, please email [email protected]
Other Information: Our website is maintained by the Harlan staff as well as volunteers with Safe Hands Animal Rescue and Brighter Days for Shelters.

Brighter Days for Shelters
Email:  [email protected]
Website:  http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY246.html
Shelter Support/Rescue
Mission Statement:
Our mission is to help underserved shelters improve the treatment and care available to animals in their custody and to reduce the number of potentially adoptable pets that are euthanized.  Brighter Days acts as a liaison between shelters and rescue groups, coordinating rescue efforts and transportation, providing positive publicity, and increasing shelter visibility within the community. Brighter Days also works directly with shelters to help improve shelter conditions through fundraising, donations, and capacity building. Brighter Days members foster former shelter animals, vetting them and offering them for adoption to responsible homes.BDFS is a foster-based network in the greater Lexington area and has no central location.
Adopting: The animals offered for adoption through BDFS are nearly all animals from the shelters that we work with. These animals are fostered in our members’ homes, quarantined, fully vetted, temperament tested, and many have begun basic training. Adoption Fees: Dogs may be adopted for between $100 and $250. Cats may be adopted for $65-150. All animals come to you spayed or neutered and up to date on vaccinations. All cats are combo tested and negative for leukemia and feline AIDS; dogs over 6 months are tested and negative for heartworms. All animals have been dewormed, treated with a flea and tick preventative, and dogs are current on heartworm preventative. All animals are microchipped for permanent identification.
Donating: BDFS can always use your help! Please check the supply list on our website for items that participating shelters have requested. If you have supplies you’d like to donate, let us know and we’ll pick them up! Monetary donations are also always appreciated and can be made quickly and safely using our PayPal button. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY246.html
Volunteering: BDFS can always use volunteers and has many different opportunities to match your interests and lifestyle. Email us and let us know! We welcome your help.
Other Information: Members of BDFS are currently working with the following shelters: Harlan County Animal Shelter (http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY197.html)   Powell County Dog Pound (http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY248.html)

Education/Spay/Neuter/Advocacy
Mission
Statement:  Our mission is to educate the public on how to care for animals, the importance of spay or neuter, and safety with animals (children). We also aim to improve the quality of life for both domesticated and stray animals in our county.
Spay/Neuter:
(Low cost discount offered): Our organization provides assistance to pet owners within our county who cannot afford the full cost of spaying or neutering their pets through a grant we received. To get an application please send a self-addressed stamped envelope to our P.O. Box and we will send you an application. (This group depends on outside donations and on grants, so funds are not certain).
Pet Education: Last school year we visited half of the elementary schools in the county teaching the children about proper treatment of animals and safety with pets. It is our hope to finish the rest of the county schools this school year.
Donations:
Our budget is extremely small and with your kind donation we could do so much more. What money we have currently goes to spay/neuter programs, educational materials, and occasionally, when possible, helping an animal in need of medical attention. But unfortunately, as you probably know, even small problems are sometimes very costly so we don't get to do that near as much as we would like. We accept pretty much any type of donation, i.e. yard sale items, fundraiser items, cages, and money orders or checks. We will accept as much or as little as you can give.
